- A full 50 hour Professional Course

The 50 hour course will provide you with the confidence and skills you need to fly in more varied conditions, as well as meet the minimums for some insurance companies. We will go over all the basics of floatplane flying during the endorsement, and then move on to the more advanced techniques like flying in mountainous terrain and landing in high altitude lakes. We will also cover techniques involved in dealing with rivers, low-level navigation and confined area landings and takeoffs. We will visit coastal floatplane bases on Vancouver Island and fly deep into the Coast Mountain range.

Time will be devoted to the various weight and balance considerations that will be faced by a float pilot flying planes near their gross weight. Fuel loadings for multiple stop, multiple passenger flights will be learned. Advanced docking skills will be learned, as the advanced float pilot will be going to many more places , some not designed with floatplane docking in mind. We will also teach the correct use of our beaching gear; an often overlooked skill that is quite necessary.

But more than anything else you will have the best flying experience you’ve ever had. Remote emerald-coloured alpine lakes, hidden waterfalls at the end of fiords, island beaches, Tofino, Whistler, Vancouver; these are just some of the places and things you will see.

The first 25 hours will be logged as dual and second 25 hours will be logged as pilot-in-command.
